Mini Muffin Tin Monday

Today is Muffin Tin Monday! There is no theme this week, and my poor little Muffin is sick AGAIN, so today I served her lunch in mini-muffin paper liners in a friand tin. That way it still looked big, but was actually very small, so as not to overwhelm her poor little tummy...

Also today I got three Surprises in the mail - woo hoo! Well, you know, not 100% surprises as such, since I had ordered this stuff, but still - FUN! So yes, I have officially taken delivery of my Very First Bento Equipment!!

I am hoping the rice moulds will a) encourage The Muffin to eat rice, and b) be able to be used for other things too.... Any ideas, anyone?

The little cutters are just the best thing ever - I actually received them two days ago, and have already used them a couple of times. Smaller than I thought they would be - which is a good thing. The Muffin is In Love with the little bird shape.

She is also In Love with the animal picks, especially the elephant, giraffe and chicken. So I had to use some of the picks in her Muffin Tin today:-

Top Row: Tinned peaches; vanilla yoghurt; two jellybeans from The Muffin's Christmas stash.
Bottom Row: Cheese with giraffe pick; salami sandwich; more cheese with elephant pick.

The After Shot:

Truly, I was amazed. Two hours before lunch, this child was throwing up in the doctor's office. I really didn't expect her to eat much at all, but she was SO excited to use the picks. So cute.

Go here to see what other mummies did this week!

Also: Oooooo, girly squeal!!! What fun - look what was in my third package today:

One of my favourite cookie artists is Callye at The Sweet Adventures of SugarBelle (go there and check out her cookies - she is truly amazing). Anyway, a while ago she wrote a post on her blog about Karen's Cookies. So I went to check them out, and wow. They are also amazing. As in, the-shipping-to-Australia-does-not-cost-more-than-the-products amazing. And they have a fantastic range of gear. And no, I'm not being paid to say so - I'm just so excited to have my new Americolor Gourmet Writers! (which I have not been able to find anywhere here)

Now if only my little girl would get well - and stay that way - my day would be just about perfect!

What wonderful packages! They contained such great bento items. Lunch looks like it was a hit.

My girls love our animal picks too. I think you can use the rice molds for hard boiled eggs maybe? Have fun!

I love the rice moulds. We have those picks as well and they are adorable.

You should be able to use the rice molds for hard-boiled eggs, as Christy said. You'd want to push more gently than with the molds designed for eggs, so it doesn't split and come squirting out the back. You could also do molded mashed potato or hashbrowns. You might want to fridge or freeze them to get them out in one piece though, then reheat. And you might be able to make sandwich pockets, if you cut the crusts off one slice of bread, put in solid fillings (cheese, meat, etc. Not PBJ!) and then tuck the edges in the bottom, filling-side-down, then puuuuuuuush the top down. Might not work perfectly though. I've only tried it in balls.

Thanks ladies for your comments!
Christy & LudicrousMama, thanks for the great ideas! I had wondered about eggs, and I LOVE the mashed potato idea (why didn't I think of that?!)
SnoopyGirl, I'm sure I'll have lots of fun - and The Muffin is feeling a bit better today. I just hope she stays that way this time!

there's a store near me called Daiso, and a lot of the stuff that JList and allthingsforsale sell are just marked up from Daiso's price (same price retail and wholesale!) So if you want me to look for anything, let me know. They always have the heart/star egg molds, and a variety of bento boxes, but the picks and cutters and nori punches vary by location (there are, like, 2 stores in my state!) and vary based on if they have any left and what they're reordering. If you check out my FB page, there's a link to the ones I bought to post on eBay, if you want to see some of the stuff Daiso has right now. The colorful animal shapes cutters you got come from them have 3 others in the series, which my location was out of last week. But I have an extra flowers and butterfly set, some sea animal picks and picks with 3 hearts lined up on top I've been sitting on. Oh. And the best part? Pretty much everything's $1.50 US (plus 10% WA state tax, so $1.65 each) except some of the bento boxes are also $3 or $6. I would just charge actual shipping and actual prices I paid, not to try and make a profit, if you are interested. ludicrousmama (at)gmail(dot)com
