Muffin Tin Monday - Butterflies & Flowers

It's Muffin Tin Monday! This week we decided on a Butterflies & Flowers theme, in honour of my new Wiltshire muffin tin I got on sale at Kitchen Warehouse (only $4)... Top Row: Banana cut into chunks with a home-made flower pick (sticker on a toothpick); frozen mixed berries with a royal icing butterfly left over from some recent cupcaking.

Middle Row: Yoghurt with a bit of vanilla and three gumpaste flowers; Butterfly Cookie (cunningly crafted from a W cookie and an I cookie - see my last post if this makes no sense at all).

Bottom Row: Salami on another homemade flower pick; Butterfly pikelet (made by chopping up round ones into a vaguely butterfly shape - a bit of a half-hearted attempt on my part, but she was happy with it). Also another royal icing butterfly (which she informed me was the pikelet one's baby).

She scoffed the lot, although surprisingly did not eat the icing butterflies. She bit a piece off of each of the pink one's wings, announced that it was "now a different sort of butterfly", and that was it. Hey, I'm not complaining. Any time my daughter refuses sugar is a cause for celebration, as far as I'm concerned (or possibly a sign that she is tremendously ill).

Next week I think I'll put a bit more forward planning in and start pushing The Muffin out of her comfort zone again. I've been a bit slack lately, just putting in things I know she likes, but one of the things I love about MTM is that she's a lot more likely to try new things this way..

Thanks ladies. Lisa - actually she used to be a massively fussy eater. Vegetables are still not her friends, but she is getting better at trying new things - watching Masterchef has helped a lot, believe it or not. However, we have never had any problem with the actual volume of food she will eat - give her something she likes and she's like Pacman.

Your gum paste flower sprinkles look so pretty on the yogurt. And the butterfly cookie is so pretty! Great tin my dear!

When we go to the grocery store, I let my 3yo pick out a veggie, on the grounds that she has to eat some (when I make it or whatever.) I know she dislikes peppers, so when she chooses a bell pepper I tell her what it is and ask if she still wants to choose it, she changes her mind. :) We also just started a veggie garden. Cucumbers, zucchini, spinach, beans and basil. And a few corn, for the beans to grow up instead of a trellis. She is super excited, and doesn't understand why we aren't uprooting and eating the seedlings! She wants me to plant beets, but I'd already started everything else and didn't have any room for anything new!

Thanks everyone!
LudicrousMama - yeah, I do that at the shops too. We also started a vegie patch! Ours is just small though. She is happy to eat the basil and chives, loves the rhubarb (which I cook without much sugar at all), won't touch the tomatoes or fennel, likes all the carrots except the white ones, and has agreed to try the purple asparagus - but it won't be ready to harvest for another 2 years! Like I said though, she is waaaaay better now than she used to be.
